Product Management - Feature Board - Getting Started

The Product Management Board, commonly called the Feature Board, will let you manage and visualize your Features in your organization workflow. At a higher level, this board will help you create the visibility your stakeholders need to see what’s happening in your organisation.

To see your feature board, you will need to access the Product Management tab, and choose the Board view.

Board View

The Feature Board will display the Features of your project and you will be able to configure what information you want to see on your cards.

Board Highlights

  • Filter Features by Iteration, Area and Status
  • Create swimlanes by grouping the Features by Iteration, Area, Assignee or Epic
  • Configure the information you need to see on the card
  • View progress statistics on the effort and/or the business value
  • Collapse the steps that you don’t need to see to focus on what’s important to you in a given context
  • Easily create new Features

Move Your Feature in Your Workflow

The Feature Board lets you customize your workflow. You can keep it simple and stick to the baseline status of the Features (New, In Progress, Done) or add more steps that will reflect how you are working towards completing your Features.

Once the Feature Board workflow is configured, it’s easy to drag and drop the Features across the board to reflect what’s currently happening in your organization.

Configuring the Board View

Accessing the Board View for the first time will require a quick configuration to enable it. You can access the board configuration by going to the project configuration under “Administer Server” in TFS Web Access and selecting the Urban Turtle tab. You will also need to configure the Product Management structure if you didn’t already do it. The first time you create a board, Urban Turtle will prompt you with a message asking you to confirm the creation of a field in your process template to enable the Board View so you don’t have to do it yourself.

Once everything is setup, the configuration screen will let you:

  • configure the display by selecting the information you want to see on the cards
  • configure the steps of your workflow
  • add, remove steps
  • set the width of each column
  • map a TFS state for each step (it is also possible to map multiple states to each step)
