UT recommendations

Originally from ticket #290.

Hi team, I am looking for your recommendations around project collections and number of work items per collection, for better performance of UT.

Does having more work items degrade the UT performance?

Thanks for your help.

    Hi Kiran,

There is no specific recommendation on how to configure Urban Turtle other than to follow the required specifications for Team Foundation Server.

However, be aware that, as of this writing, there is a limit of 200 work item that can be displayed at once in Urban Turtle 2012. In the mean time, you can use the areas and the filters as a workaround and display the work items that are relevant to you.

    Hi Kiran,

The latest version of Urban Turtle has a way to customize the maximum number of displayed work item. the article on how to do it is here.

    Hi,

We have some serious issues with performance. We make use of the areas and iterations, but even when we click an area with no items in it we get a server time-out.

We use UT 2010 and have over 25.000 work items in out collection.

Any thoughts how this performance can be improved?

    Thanks, Bas

    Hi Bas,

Make sure that the number of displayed card is under 50. This option is set by clicking on the Toolbar and selecting Cards > Cards per stack > 50. Going over 50 is usually not recommended. If you cannot access the menu you can follow this procedure to modify the number by hand.

If this does not work, are any iterations or areas hidden using the "star" feature? If there is a large number of iterations and areas, this can sometimes cause a performance problem. If it is the case, un-hide them by clicking on the gear next to the project name in the left panel and by selecting the two yellow stars.

    Hi Francis,

This seems to work, still strange because I would expect that if I enable (area/iteration) filters, the performance will increase. When I use the default TFS query's the performance is significantly better.

    Thanks for the answer.
