How does urbanturtle handle Earned Value Management?

Hi there,

I found the feature description of Earned Value Management with Urban Turtle on the website (http://support.urbanturtle.com/entries/23479388).

Is there a tutorial/ documentation available on how Urban Turtle handles Earned Value Management?

Currently I am looking for these pieces of information:

  • How and where do I enter the planned value (in $) for each task?
  • How and where do I enter specific hourly rates for each developer?
  • How and where do I set a baseline?
  • Which parts for the EVM metrics calculation are automated in Urban Turtle and which are to be done manually?

I appreciate any kind of support.

Kind regards,

Tino Rabe

    Hi Tino,

This is the documentation for the EVM widget in Urban Turtle. You can find the entire detail here : http://support.urbanturtle.com/entries/23479388

    • How and where do I enter the planned value (in $) for each task?
      • The planned value is set for every iteration, release not by task
    • How and where do I enter specific hourly rates for each developer?
      • The amount spend is enter also by sprint. Not by developer
    • How and where do I set a baseline?
      • In the iteration settings ( click on the i icon for the release or sprint you want to configure.)
    • Which parts for the EVM metrics calculation are automated in Urban Turtle and which are to be done manually?
      • When you enter all the informations the EVM is automatically calculated

    Earned Value Management Matrix

The Earned Value Management Matrix helps you assess the current state of your Agile project. Tracking those value sprints after sprints will allow you to know if your project is right on track.

    Settings

    Iteration

This corresponds to the root iteration for your project. The iterations that are under this root iteration and that do not have any child iterations will be considered as sprints for your project.

    Rows

There are 6 rows per iteration found in the Earn Value Management Matrix:

    Budget Used (Real)

This row shows the sum of Actual Budget of all sprints for the selected iteration.

    Total Budget

This row is the total Planned Budget for your project.

    Planned Value

This row shows the authorized budget assigned to the scheduled work to be accomplished.

    Earned Value

This row shows how much of the budget and time should have been spent, with regard to the amount of work done so far.

    Cost Performance Index

This row shows a measure of cost efficiency on a project. It is the ratio of earned value (EV) to actual costs (AC). A value equal to or greater than one indicates a favorable condition and a value less than one indicates an unfavorable condition.

    Scheduled Performance Index

This row shows a measure of schedule efficiency on a project. It is the ratio of earned value (EV) to planned value (PV). An SPI equal to or greater than one indicates a favorable condition and a value of less than one indicates an unfavorable condition.

Is there a way to track the actual cost based on the number of hours spent on a project? It appears that the planned budget and acutal budget entered on the configuration of the iterations is a manual entry.
