How do check whether I have admin permissions within UT ? If not, how would the administrator grant it ?
We have a large collection of team projects on our single TFS 2012 server. Would it be possible to get admin permissions for a single team project within UT. So that other teams are not affected with the customizations done for a single team project ?

It depends on what you want to configure. To make configuration change, you need to have the project administration right to access some of the configuration screen.
Regarding your question about team’s project it depends:
The custom board are per team while the backlog and product management config are per project (affecting all team within that project).
We are moving more and more configuration to the UI, but some of those config are still in a XML file that resides on the TFS server. In that case, you will also need to access the TFS server remotely.
